Admissions and Financial Aid

Application Deadline for Fall 2009 Admission: January 5, 2009

Admission to the Graduate Programs in Molecular Biosciences is competitive. A bachelor's degree or its equivalent is required for admission. The most appropriate undergraduate preparation is a concentration in biology (molecular, cellular, developmental, or microbiology), biochemistry, or chemistry (organic, analytical, or physical). Applicants are also expected to have an adequate background in calculus and physics.

Superior ability needs to be demonstrated by grade-point average (minimum G.P.A. of 3.0), letters of recommendation, and score on the Graduate Record Examination's general test.  The GRE subject test in either biology, biochemistry, cell and molecular biology, or chemistry is strongly encouraged but not required. TOEFL scores are required of students from countries in which English is not the native language.

Financial Aid

Students admitted to the Ph.D. programs in Molecular Biosciences receive a competitive fellowship in their first year. Students making good progress toward the degree can anticipate full funding until the Ph.D. is awarded.

Application Procedure

Easy Online Application for All Joint Rutgers/UMDNJ Graduate Programs

The Molecular Biosciences Admissions Committee reviews applications for all 7 participating graduate programs. When applying, please specify the name of any one of the seven programs.  This is for purposes of efficient processing of your application and will not limit your choices of labs in which to work.  Applications received prior to January 5 receive first consideration. Applications received after that date will be considered only as space and funding allow.
