Awards, Fellowships and Scholarships
A variety of awards ranging from scholarships based on academic excellence to fellowships for undergraduate research are available to students in the Division of Life Sciences. These awards are managed by the Office of Undergraduate Instruction of the Division of Life Sciences.
Novartis
Pharmaceuticals Scholarship
This scholarship is based on financial need and academic merit. Application is by invitation of the Director of the Office of Undergraduate Instruction. Intended for full time undergraduate students who are entering their junior year and whose major is Biological Sciences.
Award:
$1000 (one award), renewable for a second year.
This scholarship is based
on high academic merit and a potential for excellence in a health related
field. Applications are
usually available in mid-February. Intended
for full time undergraduate students, in

$1000 (five awards depending on the availability of funds).
Summer
Undergraduate Research Fellowship
This fellowship is intended for undergraduate Life Sciences majors pursuing novel, independent research under the supervision of a Life Sciences faculty member. Applications are usually available in mid-March. Awardees are expected to work in the lab full time (40 hrs/week) for a period of 10 weeks. For details click on S.U.R.F.
Award:
$3,000 (six or more awards depending on the availability of funds).
This award is based on high academic merit, participation in research, and service to the community. Intended for a member of the graduating class whose major is Biological Sciences. Awardee will be notified prior to graduation.
Award:
$500 and name engraved on a plaque displayed in Nelson Biological
Laboratories (one award).
This award is based on high academic merit and the intention to pursue the study of medicine. Intended for members of the graduating class whose major is Biological Sciences. Awardees will be notified prior to graduation.
Award:
Merck Manual inscribed with the student’s name (eight or more
awards depending on the availability of funds).
