Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) is one of the core technologies for the successful execution of modern biomedical/biotechnological research.  Rutgers, under the direction of Professor Jean Baum, has purchased an 800 MHz NMR spectrometer as part of an initiative to develop a New Jersey Statewide NMR Center.  The acquisition of this spectrometer, which is funded by National Science Foundation grants and is being housed at the Rutgers Technology Center II with the assistance of the New Jersey Commission on Science and Technology and the State’s Economic Development Authority, is a cooperative venture among multiple New Jersey universities, including Rutgers-New Brunswick, Rutgers-Newark, Princeton, Montclair State, and UMDNJ–Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.

The statewide facility will provide critically needed infrastructure which will enhance the quality and accessibility of academic-based research and educational programs in New Jersey, while also allowing industrial partners to access state-of-the-art NMR instrumentation.  The facility will provide an opportunity for undergraduates, graduates, postdoctoral fellows, and faculty within the consortium to meet and interact, thereby enhancing scientific collaborations and partnerships throughout the State.
