DLS Wireless Network
The Division of Life Sciences (DLS) provides wireless internet access for registered users
affiliated with Rutgers University and DLS only. All users accessing this computer system must
acknowledge their awareness of and compliance with both the Division of Life Sciences and Rutgers
University Acceptable Use Policies. Unauthorized use of any computer or network resource is prohibited.
Three wireless networks are available: DLSWireless-Secure, DLSWireless and RUWireless-DLS.
DLSWireless-Secure utilizes WPA2 security policies and is required for access to printers or
file shares, but is only available to users with a DLS domain account. DLSWireless and RUWireless-DLS
are unencrypted wireless networks available for all users with either a Rutgers NetID, DLS Domain account,
or DLS temporary guest account.
Network Policy
Security: The DLSWireless-Secure network provides the highest level of security
utilizing WPA2 with AES-derived encryption. The DLSWireless and RUWireless-DLS networks utilitize SSL
encryption for login security but does not encrpyt standard website browsing or email access, however
most modern web and email sites already provide HTTPS and SSL andencryption for sensitive information
including usernames, passwords and email access.
Bandwidth: Wireless networking provides a limited amount of shared bandwidth for
all users therefore a relaxed QoS (quality of service) restriction is imposed on all users of the DLS
Wireless networks. This may limit the individual speed of a network connection or what streaming network
services are available to help ensure that all users receive acceptable network performance.
Real-Time/P2P Protection: All users of the DLS Wireless networks are subject
to limited Network traffic restrictions to known malware and peer to peer (torrent) sites. In accordance
with the DLS and Rutgers University acceptable use policies users may forfeit access for repeated violations.
Wireless Guests
Temporary guest accounts for DLS Wireless are intended for guest presenters,
speakers or other visiting faculty who require network access but are not members of the Rutgers Community.
Please contact the administrative office of your hosting department within the DLS for these accounts.
How do I connect?

wireless devices with a web browser. Simply connect to DLSWireless or RUWireless-DLS then
open a web browser and login using a valid account.
The DLSWireless-Secure network requires some client setup and should work on computers running
at least Windows XP SP3 or Mac OSX 10.5. Supported devices also include iPhones, iPods and iPads,
Windows Mobile and Android based smart phones. DLS users running Windows can try the setup utility first,
or you can create the connection manually following the step-by-step instructions below. DLS users on
