Built in 1962 with funds appropriated from the State of New Jersey and Grants awarded to the Bureau of Biological Research from the National Institutes of Health, the National Science Foundation and New Jersey Corporations. Nelson Laboratories was named for Professors Julius and Thurlow Nelson, whose pioneering work in the Life Sciences at Rutgers spanned from 1888 to 1956.
