Setting Up Your IMAP or POP Mail Program to access your DLS Email
There are several standard settings which are shared among all email programs, this document will provide the basic settings to access your DLS email, though the settings may be located in different locations for each program.
The common settings for your DLS email are as follows.
| Incoming email server | dls.rutgers.edu |
| Outgoing email server | dls.rutgers.edu |
| Recommended server type | Secure IMAP |
| Security | SSL |
| Require outgoing authentication |
Yes Username & Password |
| SSL over IMAP ports | 993 , 25 |
Differences between IMAP and POP email servers:
Most email clients will support both IMAP and POP, however we strongly recommend using IMAP only. Both will allow you to access your email, however IMAP will read messages and keep them on the email server so you can access them later from any location. By default POP will download all your messages removing them from the server, which can result in missing or lost emails.
If you are having any additional questions please feel free to contact helpdesk@dls.rutgers.edu for any further assistance.
