Apple Mac OS X 10.5 Configuration

Note: Before a computer can connect to the DLS Wireless Network, you must have a properly installed 802.11b/g wireless network adapter. Any card bearing the Wi-Fi logo should work perfectly.. The installation of the adapter will differ from manufacturer and is beyond the scope of this document. Following any instructions provided with the adapter is recommended.

These instructions are for Mac OS X 10.5

If you are unsure what version of Mac OS X you have, click on the Apple in the upper left and and select About This Mac. Look at the version on the second line.  There are separate instructions for Mac OS X 10.1, 10.2, 10.3, 10.4 and 10.5.

 

The first several steps are necessary to create the DLS Wireless VPN connection.  After this has been created you will only need to follow step 1 and step 7 to connect to the DLS Wireless network. 

1.     You will first need to ensure your Airport is On, then make sure it is connected to the DLS-WNS network.

 

2.     Next, select the Open Network Preferences from the Airport menu.  Make sure the Network panel is unlocked and then click on the + button at the lower left to add a new connection.

 

 

3.     Set the following drop down options, Interface should be set to VPN, VPN type should be PPTP and Service Name should be DLS-Wireless VPN (PPTP).  Next just click on the Create button.

 

4.     Click on the * (Options) button on the lower left and select "Set Service Order".

 

 

5.     Click and drag the new DLS-Wireless VPN connection to the top of the Service Order list, then click Ok.

 

 

6.     Finally, select DLS-Wireless VPN (PPTP) on the left menu and enter the following information on the right side.  Server address should be dlswns or 192.168.0.1  .  Account name should be your DLS username which is typically your last name.  Also ensure that the "Show VPN status in menu bar" option is selected.  Then click Apply on the lower right, and close this preference panel.

 

 

7.     At this point you have setup the required VPN connection to access the DLS Wireless network.  To connect you should only need to click on the VPN icon in the upper right of your finder screen then select Connect DLS-Wireless VPN (PPTP).  You will be prompted for a username and password, which is your DLS username and password.
