Dr. Andrew Kern Dartmouth College Department of Biological Sciences Hanover, NH “The tortoise and the hare: finding the targets of natural selection in genomes
Thursday, February 10, 2011, 12:00pm
12:00 pm - LSB Auditorium Genetic variation within and among species is determined by a combination of stochastic and deterministic forces. The precise combination of evolutionary forces that act on our genome leaves a telltale signature that may be exploited for biological inference. I will demonstrate how computationally sophisticated methods can be integrated with mathematical results from population genetics to identify those regions of genomes which are responsible for the myriad innovations in biological evolution.
